Why are Bulletproof Helmets Arc-shaped?

Everyone knows that helmets are designed in a circular arc shape, and there is a lot of knowledge involved in this design.

One reason is that the curved helmet can cover most of the human head, making it suitable for humans to wear helmets. The other is that this shape allows bullets fired from the side to fly along the curvature of the helmet without causing significant damage to soldiers.

Perhaps some people may think that the probability of bullets flying from the side of a helmet is very low, but in the midst of flying bullets on the battlefield, there is a possibility of fatal danger in any direction. Therefore, even if the probability is small, it is still necessary to take precautions.

According to a large number of experiments conducted by researchers, this design is indeed scientific, and such cases have indeed occurred in real life. Taking the previous Korean War as an example, at that time, due to various reasons, our military soldiers were often unable to wear helmets and had to wear them hard. Under such conditions, according to post-war loss statistics, the head and neck injury rate of Chinese soldiers is as high as over 50%. A similar data survey was conducted on the US military equipped with helmets during World War II, but it was found that their combat injury mortality rate was only about 20%. This is not only a difference in military weapons, but also a significant reason for the lack of helmets.

But after all, bullets flying from the side are a minority. What if bullets were fired from the front? Can helmets block it? With the rapid development of military power in modern society, we have successfully mastered the technology of using helmets to block certain bullets.

If it were ordinary pistol bullets, modern military helmets could already withstand such attacks. But if it is a more powerful gun and bullet, the effect that a helmet can have is very small. Although current helmets have not yet reached the point of withstanding all bullets, equipping them on the battlefield greatly improves the survival rate of soldiers.
