Small Ruminants

When it comes to efficient pregnancy diagnosis in small ruminants ReproScan equipment is second to none. Click to learn more about using ReproScan equipment for small ruminants and camelids.

Most small ruminants and camelids such as deer, elk, llamas, alpacas, sheep and goats can be pregnancy tested with ultrasound equipment. The best equipment to use will depend on the animal’s size, stage of gestation and the method that you wish to use. Alpacas and llamas can be pregnancy tested with “arm in animal” between 30 and 90 days after breeding similar to a cow if one’s arm is small enough. Extension arm ultrasound can also be used, check out our Mini ReproArm.

Ideally sheep and goats are scanned at a stage of gestation (45 to 80 days) when multiple fetuses can be detected more accurately. The preferred ultrasound units for scanning sheep and goats are the BoviScan S60 and ReproScan Flexx with a C60 T handled probe. The 4.0 MHz convex rectal probe on the ReproScan XTC, BoviScan Curve and ReproScan Flexx will also work well in most situations. Please contact ReproScan for further information about ultrasound equipment for small ruminants or check out our youtube page.
