China’s largest and most efficient gas turbine has been successfully installed at the Anji Power Plant in Zhejiang Province. The project is jointly funded by Zhejiang Company and Sinopec Great Wall Gas Investment Co., Ltd., with a 65% and 35% share respectively. It involves the construction of two gas-fired generating units, each with a capacity of 843,000 kilowatts. The project forms part of Zhejiang’s “Thousand Projects, Trillion Yuan Investment” campaign to boost effective investment, and is also a flagship initiative under the province’s three-year action plan for green, low-carbon development and energy security.

To support the green transition, the project adopts the world’s most advanced gas turbine technology—the upgraded 9HA.02 H-class gas-steam combined cycle system. The units can achieve a maximum efficiency of 64.15%, roughly 17 percentage points higher than traditional 660,000-kilowatt coal-fired generators.

The plant is scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2025. Once both units are fully operational, the facility will be capable of generating up to 7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually—enough to power around 6 million residents for a year—injecting clean energy into the East China grid and strengthening the region’s energy resilience.
