Do all monitor arms work with all monitors?

03 Jan.,2024

The simple answer is generally yes, most monitors can be mounted on a monitor arm. Monitors come with the standard VESA hole pattern of 75 x 75 mm or 100 x 100 mm on the back of the monitor for attaching to a monitor arm.

What is a VESA hole pattern?

The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) is the organization responsible for defining the standards involved with mounting computer monitors, TVs, and other flat panel displays using wall mounts or stands. The VESA mounting standards make it easier for manufacturers to deliver on consumers’ needs, allowing for the affordable installation of mounts and stands for improved ergonomics and flexibility.

How can I tell if my monitor has the VESA hole pattern?

Most monitors have the standard four-hole screw pattern located at the back of the monitor.  Some monitors, particularly those that include their own stands or mounts, will have these holes hidden. You may need to remove the attached mount or rear panel, to reveal the hole pattern, as instructed in the user manual. You can also refer to your monitor’s user guide, which should usually provide information on VESA compatibility. Uplifting Solutions has a wide range of monitor arms available on our website.

How do I attach the monitor arm to the monitor?

All monitor arms come with a VESA plate which are equipped with either a 100 x 100 mm or a 75 x 75 mm square hole pattern, using M4 (that is, 4 mm diameter) screws for attachment of the monitor arm to the monitor. Generally these screws use a Phillips head screwdriver.

What happens if my monitor has a larger hole pattern?

Larger monitors may have 200 x 100 mm or 200 x 200 mm hole patterns. Some larger monitors and TVs can have 400 x 400 mm or 800 x 800 mm hole patterns and so on. However larger monitors with these patterns are generally wall mounted not desk mounted.

If your monitor has a 200 x 200 screw mounting pattern you can purchase an additional bracket to attach the monitor to the monitor arms. The VESA bracket 200 x 200 mm has numerous hole pattern combinations for the larger monitors.

What happens if my monitor does not have any hole patterns in the back?

When a monitor does not have the VESA pattern on the back of the monitor, you can use a Universal Non VESA Monitor adapter mount kit to attach the monitor to a monitor arm.  The Universal non-VESA monitor adapter mount kit is available on our website.
